Special Honors
"Scout of the Year" is an award based upon advancement, merit badges
earned, troop meeting attendance, camping, service hours, special awards
and participation in troop activities. Points are awarded with at least
three candidates selected. The Scout of the Year is then chosen by the
Troop Committee based upon Scout Spirit and overall contribution to the
troop. A Scout may receive the honor only once. Past recipients

In 2003, Byron Davis was named the Tomahawk District's Top Venturer.
In May, 1991, a Top Scout for 1986-1991 was selected by the Scoutmaster.
The recipient of this award was Stoney Williams.
In May, 1996, two Top Scouts for 1991-1996 were selected by the
Scoutmaster. They were Dustin Hammit and Greg Myrick.
In May, 2001, four Top Scouts for 1996-2001 were selected by the
Scoutmaster. They were Josh Daleiden, Byron Davis, Billy Russell and
Creighton Welch.
The "Troop Leadership Award" is a special annual award presented to the
Scout who best demonstrates outstanding leadership during a calendar
year. The recipient is selected by the Scoutmaster. Past recipients

The "Troy Williams Spirit of Scouting Award" is presented on an annual
basis to the new Scout who best demonstrates outstanding Scout Spirit
during his initial 6-12 months with Troop 405. The award is presented
in memory of Eagle Scout Troy David Williams.
Troy Williams was a very active member of Troop 405 from 1989 to 1993.
In addition to receiving the Eagle Scout Award, Troy earned Bronze and
Gold Eagle Palms, the Venture Letter, the World Conservation Award and a
Recruiter Award. He was a member of the Troop 405 Band, attended the
Silver Pines Junior Leader Training and was an Ordeal member of the
Tonkawa Lodge, Order of the Arrow.
Troy attended summer camps at Camp Tahuaya, Camp Constantin and Camp
Pupukea in Hawaii. His high adventure trips included a Sea Exploring
expedition at the Florida Sea Base and a Horse Trek at Camp Cherokee.
Troy's troop leadership positions included Patrol Leader, Crew Chief,
Instructor and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
Troy Williams passed from this life on January 3, 1996, after waging an
extremely courageous 16-month long battle with leukemia.

Each year, The American Legion selects an Eagle Scout of the Year. As
well as the National winner, State American Legion Divisions also select
State winners. Two Troop 405 Scouts have been honored as Texas American
Legion Eagle Scouts of the Year.

Each year, Sons of the American Revolution chapters hold an Eagle Scout
Scholarship contest. Chapter honorees compete for state honors and a
National winner is also selected. Four Troop 405 Scouts have been
selected as Chapter winners with two of these becoming winners for the
State of Texas.

Being recognized as a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow
demonstrates serious dedication to the principles to which Arrowmen are

Although not a Scouting honor, The Congressional Award may be earned
through Scouting activities. The award requires the young person to set
goals and complete activities related to voluntary community service,
personal development, physical fitness and an exploration or expedition
outside the young person's normal environment. The following members of
